TWO OF 5ive REMANDED ON BAIL UNTIL 10 JANUARY

Thursday, December 21 2000

Two members of the British boy band, 5ive, who were arrested last night in Dublin, have been remanded on continuing bail until 10 January. The two pop stars appeared in the Dublin District Court today following an incident at a pub last night. Richard Dobson and Jason Brown were remanded on continuing bail until January 10. The two were arrested and taken to Pearse Street Garda Station following a pub brawl at the Palace Bar on Fleet Street. It is understood the trouble broke out after the pop stars were insulted by other men in the pub, who claimed they were not as good as the Irish boy band, Westlife. Two others were arrested and one man was taken to hospital.

The band members appeared briefly before Judge William Hamill who agreed to a request that their case return to the courts on January 10. Rich and J, as they are known, will remain on bail in the meantime. The band is to play two concerts at the Point Depot tonight and tomorrow night.

BRITIDH BOY BAND MEMBERS RETURN TO DUBLIN DISTRICT COURT

Wednesday, January 10 2001

Two members of the boy band Five have been before Dublin District Court in connection with an incident in a Dublin bar last month. Twenty-three-year-old Jason Brown and 21-year-old Ritchie Dobson are charged with being drunk and disorderly and with breaching the peace. Mr Brown is also charged with assault.

In a brief hearing, Peter Charlton, SC, who is representing the two men, asked that a trial date be set in respect of Mr Brown's assault charge. He said that no evidence would be needed in relation to the charges against Richard Dobson, but he asked that both men be dealt with together. Judge Miriam Malone remanded the two on continuing bail, to appear again at Dublin District Court on 26 March.

The two were driven into the court in a large people-carrier car with blacked out windows. As Ritchie Dobson walked into Court 46, he was stopped by a young fan who took his photograph. The two were arrested last month, following a scuffle in the Palace Bar on Fleet Street, in which a man was assaulted.

BOY BAND MEMBER PLEADS QUILTY TO DRUNK AND DISORDERLY CHARGES

Monday, March 26 2001

One member of the British boy band, Five, has been put on probation after pleading guilty to charges of being drunk and disorderly and using abusive language in Dublin last December. Twenty-one-year-old Richard Dobson made a Ј3,000 donation to the court poor box. Fellow band member, Jason Brown, has had his case adjourned until October.

Richard Dobson faced the cameras before he faced Judge Michael Connellan in the Dublin District Court this morning. A small army of photographers and camera crews awaited his arrival to face charges for being drunk and disorderly and using abusive language outside Dublin's Palace Bar in December last year.

He admitted the charges and Garda Mark Cushnahan gave the court a flavour of his abusive behaviour and his Senior Counsel, Peter Charlton, sought the probation act, telling the court he had brought Ј3,000 as a sign of his contrition. His fellow Five member, Jason Brown, was also due before the court today but had rushed last week to his ill mother's bedside in Florida. Judge Connellan was not amused that the court had not been informed earlier of his absence and adjourned the case until October.

CHARGES AGAINST 5ive SINGER DISMISSED

Wednesday, October 10 2001

A member of the English boy band 5ive has had all charges against him dismissed, arising out of a disturbance in a Dublin pub last December.

23-year-old Jason Brown was given the probation act and ordered to pay Ј5,000 into a fund in Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin for babies of drug addicts. He is also to pay witness expenses of 700 pounds.

Jason Brown or Jay as he is known to his friends, failed to turn up for his previous hearing last March. He said that he was unable to attend because his mother had been ill in America at the time.

Another member of the band Richard Dobson was in court last March. He pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and using threatening language. He too was given the Probation Act.

The court heard how Jason Brown had punched a customer Fionnбn Gallagher in the face at the Palace Bar on Fleet Street after a heated exchange.

Judge Gerard Haughton said that there was overwhelming evidence that Jason Brown was the aggressor at all stages and that Mr Gallagher did not do anything to provoke the attack.

However, he added that Mr Brown had just completed a world tour, had not slept the night before and had been drinking.
